The FINNISH READING ROOM is the name of my primitive cabin in northwestern Wisconsin. I named it because of my Finnish heritage -- my father's father, Levi, came from Finland and settled in Lake Norden, SD and operated a slaughter house/meat market. My other grandfather came from Sweden and had an International Harvester dealership and an Our Own Hardware franchise. They bought the first lots on main street in Lake Norden. On these pages I intend to place some poems I have written, and add some favorites from Finnish writers I have discovered. I hope anyone who has discovered other Finnish writers will contact me and share their favorites.

The following poems are by Lee Bajuniemi (1941- ) PATTERNS sometimes in a pattern something follows something that was the same so you know what it really was and can go back to it sometimes you can find more patterns than you really want to know about then they might remind disturb and even embarrass so accept whatever patterns you discover then choose your favorites to cultivate and nourish let all the others go IMPORTANCES It is important to find out what parts of your life you'd miss so go away long enough to start to miss people things events places and you will begin to know your needs values wishes treasures one thing you find out is that most of what you first miss is tangible & sensory then you see that the feelings ideas memories & relationships are what you have with you wherever you go so no-one no-thing can erase them or ever take them away from you PLACES some places are farther away in time than space other places from long ago can be retrieved in full color memory immediately warm & intense a new place won't replace an old place automatically they get compared quickly for clues about what's safe & satisfying personal secret places are unknown to others like alleys bridges cafes destinations zooz bus stops black forests corn fields railroad tracks river banks sandy beaches tree houses becoming favorite from familiar frequency places make us lucky in their differences so we notice and don't lose their specialness when later we can't get there anymore places don't require alphabetical remembering
